LORENZO SAVADORI WINS THE FIRST RACE OF THE CIV (ITALIAN SPEED CHAMPIONSHIP).
RETURN TO THE TRACK FOR THE NEW M2 RACING TEAM, WITH APRILIA RSV4 1100 FACTORY.
EDDI LA MARRA CLOSES SEVENTH.
Scarperia (Italy), 4 July 2020 - The wait is over, the Italian Speed Championship has finally started from Mugello Circuit after the long wait imposed by the Covid-19 health emergency.
Lorenzo Savadori and Eddi La Marra were ready to ride on their Aprilia RSV4 1100 Factory in CIV configuration.
In Superbike, Lorenzo Savadori was the author of an excellent qualifying, setting the second fastest time in 1’51.085 which allowed him to take the front row. Teammate Eddi La Marra conquered the 3rd row on the grid.
At the start, Lorenzo Savadori sprints and takes the lead of the race. A challenge between MotoGP testers takes place: Lorenzo is followed by Michele Pirro, who gains tenths lap after lap; after only four laps the gap on the third is already almost four seconds. Lorenzo keeps the lead until lap 9, when he is overtaken by Pirro. But Ducati rider's pace is too high, and Michele Pirro slips away two corners later. Lorenzo Savadori is then alone towards the victory of race 1, CIV Superbike.
Not an easy race for La Marra, who suffers a contact with another rider at the start, but he's able to maintain his balance on the RSV4 1100 Factory and to lose only a couple of positions. After a good comeback, he's 7th at the checkered flag.
Lorenzo Savadori #32 - CIV SBK: “We have not ridden much, and we are not perfect yet with our Aprilia RSV4 1100 Factory. Aprilia and the team have worked a lot and are continuing to do their utmost to allow me to be fast and competitive. In the race we took our step; I hope Michele is ok, and that nothing serious happened. Now let's try to improve performance for tomorrow's race. I thank Nuova M2 Racing and Aprilia Racing for the great work they are doing and all the sponsors who help me. "
Eddi La Marra #47 - CIV SBK: "At the start I was hit by Delbianco, the blow was heavy enough to detonate the airbag of my suit (that took at least two laps to deflate). I struggled to ride and I lost the laps in which the tire was more performing. When I regained confidence with my Aprilia, despite the deterioration of the tire, we managed to complete some good laps.
Now we work together to be ready for tomorrow race.
I want to thank Nuova M2 Racing and all the sponsors who follow me ".
