GOOD PERFORMANCE BY KEVIN CALIA ASTRIDE HIS APRILIA RSV4 RF, SIXTH ACROSS THE WIRE
ROBERTO TAMBURINI CRASHES OUT WHILE PUSHING FOR A PODIUM FINISH
The Nuova M2 Racing riders got off the line well after the Saturday qualifiers, but the race was red-flagged straight away due to a multi-bike accident in the first lap. For the second start, five laps were cut, so Kevin Calia and Roberto Tamburini only had eight laps to make the difference astride their Aprilia RSV4 RF machines. Both started well, moving forward a few positions each. Roberto Tamburini settled solidly into third place astride his Aprilia when, in the last lap, he was attacked from behind and crashed as he attempted to take back third. Kevin Calia put in a good performance, overtaking two riders at the start and chasing down the second group. At the end of the race he managed to move up another position, finishing in sixth with his RSV4.
Kevin Calia: “I can't say I'm pleased, but in any case I'm satisfied because we paid the price of not having ridden much here at Aragon, whereas many other riders have. At Assen I'm sure things will change. In any case, we brought home a nice sixth place and some important points for the overall standings. I think this year there will be several of us making a play for the podium, so every point will be very important. We'll definitely redeem ourselves at Assen and come back even stronger than before. My thanks to the team, Aprilia Racing, the sponsors, and all those people who stand by me.”
Roberto Tamburini: “I had a pretty good start in the lead group, although from mid-race on I struggled a bit with the front end. When De Rosa overtook me I tried to stay wide in the "S", but he made a slick move, slowing down a lot. I realised what he was doing at the last second and crashed, making contact with his rear tyre. It's a shame because I could have finished on the podium. We'll try to be even faster in two weeks at Assen, where we'll try to redeem ourselves and be even more motivated. I'd like to thank the entire team for their excellent work and Aprilia Racing for their support.”
