Pike’s Peak International Hill Climb is considered one of the most challenging races in the world, where the differences in road and environmental conditions can change suddenly, while summiting the 14,115; mountain. Always a challenge, arriving for the first time with the Tuono Factory with the Aprilia Americas team, the result was never certain. The Tuono 1100 Factory
used in the race started its life off just like every other Tuono to come out of Noale, with the team working to make adjustments to accommodate the demands of “America’s Mountain”. The stock vehicle is equipped with sophisticated electronic management includes the advanced dynamic controls package with APRC, cornering ABS, quick shift active even in downshifting, pit limiter and cruise control. The unique 175 hp 65° V4 engine and the racing frame provide unparalleled performance from street to track – and in this case a street race to the top. With some simple modifications, mostly from the Aprilia accessory catalog
, to reduce weight, improve rider preferences for suspension, fueling, gearing, and overall feel with braking, the bike was transformed into the fastest motorcycle to ever summit Pikes Peak. Scaysbrook expanded, “The race was one of those occasions where my motorcycle and I just gelled. The work we did throughout the week was calculated and systematic, making the bike better and better, and I’m so grateful to have such an incredible team behind me to help achieve this result.” The hard work the team and rider all put in to achieve this amazing victory has paid off and goes to show the capability of the Tuono platform.
