APRILIA GREBENSTEIN WINS EUROPEAN ENDURANCE CHAMPIONSHIP RACE

On July 30th, the French city of Dijon was the scene of the third race of the European long-distance championship. The Aprilia Grebenstein team from Gera started with its rider line-up including Ralph Uhlig, Andy Scheffel and Oliver Skach. Training day on this new track for the team’s riders started with perfect summer weather.

The time training session was held on Saturday afternoon. The Aprilia Grebenstein team reached an extraordinary third position on the starting line of this race that lasts a total of six hours. The race started at 12 o’clock sharp. The starting rider Oliver Skach was able to take the lead.

The first hour of the race was characterised by several accidents and laps behind the safety car. Shortly before the end of the first round, a damaged tyre forced the Aprilia back to the pit for an unplanned stop. Despite the mishap, it slipped only to fifth place where it started its race to catch-up. About halfway through the race, the team from Gera had fought back to the lead and it was able to keep it to the end fending off the strong French teams.

This was the first victory for the Aprilia team in the European championship and allowed it to climb to third place in the championship ranking. The last race of the European Championship is scheduled on September 23rd in Oschersleben. Before then, the team will be starting the DRC race on August 19/20 in Schleiz with two motorcycles.
