GP OF SPAIN: SMITH IN POLE POSITION, SIX APRILIA BIKES LEAD THE PRACTICE

The 125cc second qualifying practice took place today for the composition of the starting grid of the Spanish GP. The practice proved to be very balanced, with seventeen riders finishing in the span of just 0.985”. Aprilia performed birlliantly conquering the first row and placing eight bikes in the first ten positions.

Bradley Smith got the pole position with the time of 1' 47” 58, for the second time after the Qatar GP. The young English rider of the Polaris World team showed to have improved a lot since yesterday, as he has solved the problems on the engine of his RSA. Nico Terol got the second postion 0” 454 behind him. The Spanish rider has confirmed his brilliant performance yesterday. Despite being contented with the second place of the starting grid, he is certain to be one of the favourites for the final victory. Stefan Bradl, who is constantly improving is third, while the reigning World champion Gabor Talmacsi completes the first row with the time of 1' 48” 113.

“I am very happy with this pole – said Smith – but there is still a lot of work to do for the race. We still have some problems, especially the grip on the rear, but the engine is a lot better compared to yesterday. I like this track a lot, it is here that I started competing on a serious basis. Spain meant a lot for my professional growth. The race tomorrow will be very tough, my pace is fine but we are all within a small span of time and anything could happen. I will have to push hard and try to win or at least get on the podium”.

“I am very happy - said Terol - even though I haven’t improved the time set yesterday because of the traffic I found during the the good lap. However I will start from the first row  and I have a good pace. Smith set a brilliant time. It was hard to take the pole from him. But we made a great job, the bike is fine and I am confident I will be able to fight for the podium tomorrow”.

Simone Corsi got the fifth position with the time of 1' 48” 128, just 0.015” from the  first row. He is followed from Bonsey, on his RS of the Degraaf team, Di Meglio and Scott Redding. Sergio Gadea is twelfth, Stefano Biaco fourteenth, Iannone twentieth, while Lacalendola finishes in the twenty-eighth place.
